NOTE:  

The second team listed on the game schedule is the home team.  The home team is

 responsible for paying the two officials ($50.00 each).  Every game will be played on

 the home team’s home field.  Each game will consist of two forty minutes

 halves and a five minute half-time. Game time for Friday, October 1, 2004 and Wednesday, October 6, 2004 will be 4:00pm. Game time for Saturday, October 2, 2004 will be 10:00am.  There will be no overtime or shoot-outs in this stage of competition.  The official score will be the score at the end of regulation time.  The first two teams from each group shall advance to the Round of sixteen.

·          THE NEXT EIGHT SEEDS WILL BE THE TOP FOUR SEEDS FROM THE FIRST DIVISION NORTH AND FIRST DIVISION SOUTH CONFERENCES.  THESE TEAMS WILL BE PLACED IN A SECOND BOWL TO BE DRAWN RANDOMLY AS THE SECOND TEAM OF EACH GROUP.

·          THE NEXT EIGHT SEEDS WILL BE THE LAST FOUR SEEDS FROM THE FIRST DIVISON NORTH AND FIRST DIVISION SOUTH CONFERENCES.  THESE TEAMS WILL BE PLACED IN A THIRD BOWL TO BE DRAWN RANDOMLY AS THE THIRD TEAM IN EACH GROUP.

·          THE LAST EIGHT SEEDS WILL BE THE FIRST FOUR SEEDS OF THE SECOND DIVISION NORTH AND SECOND DIVISION SOUTH CONFERENCES.  THESE TEAMS WILL BE PLACED IN A FOURTH BOWL TO BE DRAWN RANDOMLY AS THE FOURTH TEAM IN EACH GROUP.

STAGE 1 OF PLAYOFFS – GROUP PLAY

 

·          EACH TEAM WILL PLAY A SINGLE ROUND ROBIN FORMAT WITH TEAMS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE GROUPS.  HOME AND AWAY GAMES WILL BE PLAYED.  THESE GAMES WILL TAKE PLACE ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 1 – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2 – WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6.  THESE GAMES WILL BE 80 MINUTE GAMES.  THE TOP TWO TEAMS FROM EACH GROUP WILL ADVANCE TO THE NEXT STAGE.  THE HOME TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THE OFFICIALS.

STAGE 2 OF PLAYOFFS – ROUND OF SIXTEEN

 

·          THIS IS A SINGLE ELIMINATION STAGE.  THE TEAMS WHICH QUALIFY SHALL PLAY THE ROUND OF SIXTENN IN THE FOLLOWING FORMAT:

·          ALL RUNNER-UP TEAMS ARE HOME TEAMS AND SHALL PAY THE OFFICIALS.  THESE GAMES SHALL BE PLAYED ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2004, AT TWO SITES TBA.  FOUR GAMES AT ONE SITE AND FOUR AT THE SECOND SITE.  THE FIRST GAME SHALL START AT 9:00AM, WITH ALL OTHER GAMES STARTING 10 MINUTES FOLLOWING THE END OF THE PREVIOUS GAME. THESE GAMES ARE 80 MINUTE GAMES.  IN CASE OF A TIED SCORE AT THE END OF REGULATION TIME, AN OVER TIME/GOLDEN GOAL/TWO 10 MINUTE HALVES SHALL BE PLAYED.  IF THE SCORE REMAINS TIED, A SHOOT-OUT PROCEDURE SHALL BE USED TO DETERMINE A WINNER.  THE WINNERS OF THE EIGHT GAMES QUALIFY FOR THE QUARTERFINALS.

 

STAGE 3 OF PLAYOFFS – QUARTERFINALS

 

·          THE EIGHT TEAMS THAT QUALIFY IN THE ROUND OF SIXTEEN SHALL PLAY THE QUARTERFINALS AS FOLLOWS:

STAGE 4 OF PLAYOFFS – SEMIFINALS

 

·          THE WINNERS OF THE QUARTERFINALS SHALL PLAY THE SEMIFINALS IN THE FOLLOWING WAY:

·          THE WINNERS OF GAMES  C – D  ARE HOME TEAMS AND SHALL PAY THE OFFICIALS.  THESE GAMES SHALL BE PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2004, AT A SITE AND TIMES TO BE DETERMINED.  THESE GAMES ARE 80 MINUTE GAMES.  IN CASE OF A TIED SCORE, THE SAME PROCEDURE AS IN THE ROUND OF SIXTEEN SHALL BE USED TO DETERMINE A WINNER.  THE WINNERS OF EACH SEMIFINAL GAME SHALL QUALIFY TO PLAY IN THE CPS CITY CHAMPIONSHIP.

 

STAGE 5 OF PLAYOFFS – CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

 

·          THE WINNERS OF THE SEMIFINALS SHALL PLAY FOR THE CPS VARSITY CITY SOCCER TITLE IN THE FOLLOWING WAY:

 

WINNER OF GAME – 1       vs                     WINNER OF GAME – 2

 

·          THE WINNER OF GAME  - 2  SHALL BE THE HOME TEAM AND SHALL PAY THE OFFICIALS.  THIS GAME SHALL BE PLAYED ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2004.  THIS IS AN 80 MINUTE GAME. IN CASE OF A TIED SCORE, THE SAME PROCEDURE AS IN THE ROUND OF SIXTEEN SHALL BE USED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER.  THE SITE AND TIME OF THE GAME SHALL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE CITY PLAYOFFS TOURNAMENT DRAW, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2004 AT W. PAYTON PREP AT 4:00PM.

 

NOTE:

 

·          DURING THE GROUP PLAY STAGE THERE WILL BE SOME ROOM FOR ADJUSTMENTS AS TO WHO WILL BE HOSTING THESE GAMES.  THESE ADJUSTMENTS WILL BE MADE BECAUSE OF LACK OF PARK DISTRICT FIELD AVAILABILITY.  THE FRIDAY AND WEDNESDAY GAMES OF  GROUP PLAY SHALL START AT 4:30PM.  THE SATURDAY GAME OF GROUP PLAY SHALL START ACCORDING TO FIELD AVAILABILITY.  THE CPSSL PREFERS FOR THE SATURDAY GAMES TO BE PLAYED IN THE MORNING.
